As Christmas approaches, the neighbour, the pharmacist or the hairdresser tend to say, “I wish you a happy holiday season.” In previous years, I used to respond, “Thank you, same to you!”
This year, I’ve decided to do something different. I reply with, “I wish you a happy holiday season as we celebrate Jesus’ birthday!” If it surprises them, it reminds them of the One we celebrate as we come to the end of the year.
The other night, after a nice meal at a restaurant with my wife, I left a gospel of Mark with the waiter and said, “I wish you a happy holiday season as we celebrate the birth of Jesus!” He answered, “I wish you a happy holiday season as we celebrate the birth of Jesus!” ( A reply not common at all in France!)
What if that’s how we approached everyone we meet this month?
