A GERMAN, A KOREAN, THE LAND OF CHAD

This is the story of thousands of German Mennonite Christians who had been living in the USSR for several generations, and who fled communism in the late 1980s.

These families, who had experienced persecution, returned to Germany, the land of their ancestors, to spread the Gospel and establish Christian churches and schools.

That’s why the town of Bielefeld today has so many devout believers!

It was to one of these families that we were warmly welcomed last weekend.

The Mennonite church was the venue for the wedding of our friend David (whom we met when he was learning French at the WEC France sending base) and Hélène (born in Kazakhstan during the Soviet era). It was in Chad that they met… and where they’ll be returning together to serve God.

A grandiose wedding! It was worth driving 1,200 kilometres in less than 3 days to celebrate their union and discover this wide Mennonite community with a huge heart for mission.
