Ever heard of the little village of Asterix?
That’s what the Annual Chinese Youth Camp was like, lost in the sticks somewhere on the road to Normandy.
A total of 110 Chinese (adults on one side and young people on the other) of the Wenzhou people group, (members of churches in Paris), came together for 5 days.
Every morning and afternoon, we had the joy of bringing the Word of God to the young people. We quickly realized that most of them, although they had grown up in Christian circles, had never given their lives to Jesus.
On the second day, 18 of them stood up publicly to confess Christ as their personal Saviour. The next day, others made the same commitment, and one evening at the Adults & Youth Service, unsaved parents gave their hearts to Christ.
Many young people wrote down on paper the sins they had confessed. As a sign of ‘victory over the past’, we gathered around a fire to burn those papers!
By the end of the camp, Friday morning, the transformation was already evident on many faces. One of the youngsters left us a note: ‘Thank you for sharing your stories and for coming’.
