The Weekly Update – March 23, 2026
If only Christians could see how much more efficient, they would be in witnessing if they simply told the Gospel through story.
That’s why the book ‘Telling the Gospel through story’ written by Christine Dillon, missionary to Taiwan should be in the hands of every believer. She states that “ Bible storying is far more effective than most other forms of apologetics and evangelism.”
The other day, I went over to the park, close to where we live, and sat on a bench to continue the reading of that book. I had just started when an old lady , walking slowly, came and sat next to me. My wife and I have already met her a few times and given her a copy of the Gospel of Luke.
A little voice inside of me seemed to say: “ Since you’re reading a book about storying, tell her a story from the Bible”.
She was the first to speak to say how upset she was: “ Yesterday, she said, I went to the ‘Playing cards’ Club’. I was left to sit the whole afternoon all by myself. Noone spoke to me. I’ll never go back there again! ”
I then asked her if I could tell her a short story. She agreed. As we both sat under the sun, I shared the account of the Samaritan woman who met Jesus at the well. As I talked, I realised how the old lady’s experience of rejection was very similar to the woman at the well (who must have been rejected by those in her community for the kind of life she lived).
I closed my story by saying: “ You know Madame, God does not treat us the way people do. He welcomes every one of us.”
We stayed on that bench for almost two hours. I look forward to sharing with her another life changing story.
