‘Open Doors magazine’ arrives in our mailbox every month. I have to admit that sometimes I feel like unsubscribing, as the content of what our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world are going through is often hard to read. But we’ve decided to continue receiving it and to read all the articles.
It is our duty to pray for Christians across the world oppressed for their faith.
Among everything we’ve read in this year’s ‘Open Doors’ magazine’( Portes Ouvertes in French), there’s one article that has particularly moved us. We’ve cut it out so we can remember to intercede.
Here it is:
“Pastor Ghirmay Araya died last May while in detention. While 8 Christians were arrested the same month, let’s remember the other eminent pastors in prison for 20 years now in Eritrea: Kiflu Gebremeskel and Haile Nayzgi (arrested in May 2004), Million Gebreselanie (arrested in June 2004), Futsum Gebrenegus, Gebremedhin Gebregiorsis and Tekleab Menghisteab (arrested in November 2004)… Unfortunately, the list is not exhaustive. They need our prayers now more than ever.”
20 years! 20 years that these men of God have been locked up in prison!
