A small team from three different churches joined the evangelistic effort organized in the town of Illzach (where WEC France’s offices are located).
In the days leading up to Christmas, armed with “Merry Christmas” envelopes (containing a handmade card and a Gospel of John), the team rang the doorbell of 1000 homes. The warm welcome we received at the door enabled us, despite the rain and cold, to reach the one thousandth house.
We realized that:
-the majority of the family names on the doorbells are not French. The ‘unreached people groups’ are also close to us.
-the number of lonely people is impressive. The envelope may be the only gift many of them will receive.
-hand-delivering the envelope surprised and touched many people. Tip: if nobody is at home, leave it on the doormat rather than in the letterbox.
-several veiled women (who speak good French) were delighted to receive the gift. Alone at home, these Muslim women will have the opportunity to discover the Good News for the first time!
When you distribute a portion of the Bible, trust the Holy Spirit to use it to touch hearts. In His time, His Word will bear fruit.
Well known French author Victor Hugo (‘Les Misérables’) once said: ‘Plant gospels in every village. One Bible per hut.’
Do pray for many in Illzach to be touched as they discover for themselves the Gospel of John.
