Have you thought about those elderly Christians who don’t see anyone all Summer long? They’re at home, alone, and haven’t had a visitor for months. Not only are they sometimes forgotten by their family members, but also by members of their congregation.
On Saturday evening, we decided to call up a couple who live in the same town as us. Ralph and Christiane are too old now to attend church. We invited them to worship at their home. They were pleasantly surprised.
The next day, we were in their living room. Ralph (who uses a walker and turns 88 on Wednesday) and his wife had much pleasure singing old songs. The 4 of us read the Word and we shared Communion.
Why not seek out the old folks of your church (who can no longer get out) and offer them a short service in their own home? You don’t need to stay long. All you need is 2 or 3 songs (let them teach you their favourite ones), a short Scripture mediation and a time of prayer.
Having a church service in their house could be the best surprise they’ve had in a long time.
