It is with much sadness that I learnt a few days ago the passing away of Cambodian Pastor Koeun Path.
Koeun was one of my closest friend. I met him in 1999 at his church in France a few weeks before I flew out to Cambodia. He came to my home country. I went to his.Though we lived almost 12 000 kilometres from each other. How he survived under the Khmer rouges regime is one of the most moving testimony you’ll ever read. His book in French http://www.koeunpath.com was so gripping I could not put it down.
I have such good memories of times with Pastor Path and his wife Kathy at their home in Alsace, France and at their Cambodian Evangelical church in the little town of Wittenheim. (One of the last Cambodian churches in France)
For many years Koeun would travelled to his native land to encourage the churches, the Khmer pastors and missionaries. His schedule was always so packed at each of his Cambodian trips. He was one of the best supporters of the small French missionary team.
Such an encourager he was!
During one of his last visits to Cambodia I happen to be driving up to Siem Reap for a conference.
Koeun was with me in the car. I dropped him on the way to his mothers’ house. For many years he had prayed for his mother’s conversion. She had only known Buddhism but shortly before she passed away she finally gave her life to Jesus.
Last week I lost a great friend and a dear brother in Christ. I lost my ‘Cambodian pastor’.Do pray for Kathy, her 3 boys, her daughters in law and her grandchildren.
