A great place to close the year

New Creation Church : It is the only church I have ever been in my life where you need to book on line to get a seat ! Thanks to Singaporean friends, I got in for the early service yesterday. 31 000 believers call New Creation their church.

Worshipping with thousands of God’s people in a packed auditorium was truly the best way to close the year.

I was expecting heavy ‘Hillsong’ style of music (which I am not a big fan of) . But to my surprise we sang old hymns. The worship team truly led the congregation into worship. In a number of churches I’ve been to, the worship band performs and literally takes over. Yesterday you could so cleary hear everyone’s voice singing.

Pastor Mark, in spite of his broken English, gave such a good sermon. He brought in Scripture, his own testimony, some humour, made Jesus the centre, and imparted hope and faith : all the right ingredients for a good sermon.
After the service I was introduced to two ladies. One is 83 years old and the other 85. We sat down for a meal in one of the many eating places on the church premises. The two grandmothers shared their testimony with me: both found Christ late in life. The turning point was the day their got rid of their many Chinese idols and surrendered their lives to Jesus.

The story of those two old ladies was like hearing another powerful sermon.

I look forward to be back at New Creation Church next week.

Happy New Year!
